Wang Rong, who is six-months pregnant, is about to leave Beijing for California so she can give birth to her baby in the United States and give the child its first gift - US citizenship.
The special delivery will cost Wang and her husband, both white-collar workers in the capital, 100,000 yuan ($15,000), but they say it is money well spent.
The expenditure will cover all costs, including services before departure, medical care in the US and a three-month stay there, thanks to the help of a Shanghai-based agency that specializes in taking mainland moms to North America.
"Given the quality of educational resources and employment prospects in China, where there is a huge population and harsh competition, I want my baby to win at the starting line by obtaining US citizenship," she said.

I think it's good!
Even though the babies will forget where they originate from when they grow up, proudly flaunting 'I'm American', I think it might be just advantageous for China, if the babies will stay overseas in the future.
Imagine half of the Chinese population had been transported to abroad, even if they totally forgot they were Chinese as many people who already did so. It'd be brilliant!

Why exactly would it be brilliant Hurley? More room in China? Slowly turn foreign countries into Chinese provinces?

This behaviour is exactly the reflection of Chinese tradition. Parents are always too considerate about their children, worrying about their future, thus paving a good road for them!

I mean I just hate when Lithuanian go abroad... 'cause we have one of the oldest languages in the world and it may die because of that. But you may think that it is good 'cause you may get better job if some people leave that place

Wait what? The US is actually ... I mean ACTUALLY allowing this? Oh right, this is California. I bet you won't see this going down in ... let's say Arizona. Then again, $15000 for citizenship is pretty expensive. That's like half of my yearly paycheck after tax! Good thing I only had to pay 700 bucks for my naturalization. haha

Haha, I actually don't see this as a bad thing. Is this really so different from moving to the US later in life to live/work? I think keeping your options open is almost always a good thing. However, many people would not describe me as patriotic and some might even go so far as to label me a traitor. Live and let live, that's what I say. Next thing people will be saying you shouldn't leave your hometown. Where you were born and your original hukou is from is where you should remain for life!
